Cary Grant’s Former Beverly Hills Estate Listed for $77.5M

The Cary Grant Beverly Hills estate, once home to the iconic Golden Age actor, is now on the market for a staggering $77.5 million. Located on a sprawling three-acre lot, the estate combines classic Hollywood history with contemporary luxury. Originally purchased by Grant in 1946 for just $46,000—the same year he starred in Alfred Hitchcock’s Notorious—the property has since undergone a stunning transformation.

When Grant acquired the home, it was a modest retreat. Later, in the 1970s, he began a renovation that marked both a personal and architectural turning point. During that period, he met Barbara Jaynes (then Harris), who would become his fifth wife. They later married, and she moved into the home, eventually inheriting it after Grant’s passing in 1986.

Years later, Barbara married real estate investor David Jaynes. The couple decided to reimagine the aging structure entirely. Although Grant had once envisioned a revamp, he reportedly admitted, “I should have knocked the whole thing down.” Inspired by that sentiment and their own design goals, the Jayneses demolished the original house and created a new 15,700-square-foot estate that would finally do justice to the property’s views and potential.

Completed in 2022, the new residence was designed with the landscape in mind. Tall ceilings, clean architectural lines, and expansive glass walls allow natural light to flood the interior. Many of the walls slide open, seamlessly connecting the indoors to the outdoors. This modern design choice highlights sweeping views of Los Angeles and the Pacific Ocean—features that the original house’s low ceilings had once obscured.

The six-bedroom, 13-bathroom mansion now stands as a bold expression of understated elegance. Wrapped in multiple terraces, the property offers numerous vantage points to enjoy the resort-style grounds. A 52-foot swimming pool overlooks downtown LA. A full-size tennis court and a rose-filled garden further elevate the estate’s outdoor charm. Every element was curated to highlight, rather than compete with, the natural beauty surrounding the property.

Inside, the design continues with consistency and grace. White oak floors and white walls lend a bright, airy feel throughout the home. The eat-in kitchen features state-of-the-art appliances and sleek finishes, merging form with function. The residence also includes a spacious home theater perfect for screening classics or new releases. A glass-enclosed wine room, a glam room for styling, and a fully equipped gym round out the amenities.

Despite the scale, the home doesn’t feel overwhelming. Instead, it reflects a balance between Hollywood legacy and modern living. The Jayneses wanted the new design to feel luxurious but comfortable—an estate worthy of its lineage but fit for contemporary needs.

Beyond its architectural and design merits, the property carries the weight of Hollywood history. This was once a place where Grant hosted legends like Frank Sinatra and Gregory Peck. Today, the site serves as both a modern masterpiece and a timeless tribute. The care taken in its rebirth honors Grant’s memory, while also ushering the estate into a new era of elegance.

With its prime location, expansive layout, and deep cultural roots, the Cary Grant Beverly Hills estate is more than a luxury home—it’s a rare offering that blends legacy and lifestyle. For those seeking unparalleled real estate in Los Angeles, few properties can rival its story, scale, and splendor.
