“It Was My Dream Place”: Bozoma Saint John Reflects on Losing Her Malibu Home in Wildfires

But earlier this year, she faced a deeply personal loss—her beloved Malibu vacation home was destroyed in the devastating wildfires that tore through Los Angeles County.
“It was my dream place,” said Saint John, now 48, in an interview with Mansion Global. “Losing it was heartbreaking.”
While her primary residence in Hancock Park, a charming early 20th-century home, was spared, the emotional toll of the loss was profound. Thankfully, she still finds comfort in the lush backyard sanctuary of her main home, complete with lemon trees, a fountain, rose bushes, a pergola, and frequent visits from hummingbirds.
From Global Boardrooms to Personal Retreats
Known for her bold career moves and vibrant personality, Saint John recently stepped into entrepreneurship, launching Eve by Boz, a haircare brand inspired by her signature afro. Her visibility skyrocketed after her dynamic appearance at Apple’s 2016 WWDC, where her hair became as talked-about as the tech.
But at home, it’s her beauty room that truly reflects her spirit. Once a bedroom, it’s now a glam space with white and cream tones, twin vanities, dozens of wigs, and an extensive collection of hair products.
“I’m best known for my hair,” she laughed. “So I needed a room that honored that.”
A Home That Reflects Her Journey
Saint John’s Hancock Park home is steeped in character and filled with sentimental touches—a wall of family photos, antique estate sale finds, and art by Afro-Cuban painter Harmonia Rosales, whose work reflects themes of femininity and African identity.
Her favorite hangout? A massive sectional couch in the family room—big enough to stretch out or host friends. But it’s the home office where she spends most of her time, surrounded by textured wallpaper featuring Black women, a mirrored desk with a giant amethyst crystal, and all her professional accolades.
“The black shearling rug on the floor is my escape,” she said. “I lay down when I need a break.”
Finding Comfort Amid Chaos
Despite her demanding schedule, travel, and the recent loss, Saint John says nothing compares to her own California king bed, packed with pillows and topped with a fluffy comforter.
“Not even the best hotel beds come close,” she smiled.
