Honolulu Estate Sells for $65.75M, Setting a Record for Hawaii

A lavish Honolulu estate sells for $65.75M, breaking the record for the most expensive residential sale in Hawaii’s history. Known as Hale Hanohano (House of Honor), the luxurious oceanfront property sits along the exclusive Kahala Avenue and features over 200 feet of direct beach frontage on Oahu’s southern coast.

A Sprawling Compound of Three Homes

Spanning 1.52 acres, the compound includes:

  • A main residence
  • A home for adult children
  • A guest house
All structures are connected via breezeways and collectively offer 11,870 square feet of living space. Amenities include:
  • Heated Olympic-size lap pool with underwater speakers
  • Cobblestone driveway imported from London
  • Floor-to-ceiling retractable doors
  • Outdoor kitchen and bar
  • Butler’s pantry and expansive terraces

“The design was meant to be both luxurious and family-friendly,” said one agent familiar with the sale.

From $22M Assembly to $65M Landmark Sale

The seller, Susan Ocampo, a former tech entrepreneur and director at Macom Technology Solutions, began assembling the estate with her late husband, John Ocampo, in 2013 and 2014. They acquired three lots for $22.2 million before commissioning architect Kristan Eiserloh to build the custom compound, completed in 2018.

A Hub for Tech Billionaires and Celebrities

Kahala Avenue is home to a number of high-profile figures, including:

  • Samsung’s late chairman Lee Kun-hee
  • Actress Liza Minnelli
  • eBay founder Pierre Omidyar

Luxury in Hawaii has been reaching new heights, with tech moguls like Jeff Bezos, Larry Ellison, Peter Thiel, and Mark Zuckerberg also acquiring massive holdings throughout the islands — though many of those were not conventional home sales.
