The Sydney Wedding Cake House has hit the market for the first time in 46 years, priced at $9 million. This iconic mansion has been a landmark for commuters crossing the Spit Bridge toward Sydney’s northern beaches. Its white tiered structure, complete with colonnades and arches, has earned it the nickname “wedding cake house” because of its unique, striking design.
Set on a 1100sqm waterfront block, the home overlooks Middle Harbour and The Spit. In 1979, a family bought the land at auction shortly after viewing it. They began building their dream home in the early 1980s. According to sales agent Brad Pillinger, the home’s European-inspired design continues to stand out along the foreshore. Passing boats often admire its unusual facade.
Spanning three levels, 23 Battle Boulevard includes four bedrooms with balconies, three bathrooms, and an ornate timber staircase. Terrazzo floors and decorative ceilings give it a timeless feel. Two large entertaining balconies offer sweeping views of Middle Harbour. There’s also space for a pool, and the approval for a pontoon is pending. The home’s original design remains largely untouched since the 1980s, giving it a nostalgic atmosphere.
The mansion is near another Seaforth landmark, the “spaceship house.” Together, these two iconic homes create a distinctive streetscape. Pillinger says the Sydney Wedding Cake House is ideal for families. Its layout provides separate spaces for older children while offering large communal areas for younger ones. He also mentioned that properties in this part of Seaforth rarely come up for sale, making this one “affordable” for the area.
The auction will take place in September. Pillinger emphasized that this unique house, with its solid construction and remarkable harbour views, is a rare opportunity for buyers.
